Join us for this Social Meditation retreat that will take place in a home and rural retreat center in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Social Meditation is a group practice that facilitates creating a culture of nowness, by bringing the wisdom of meditation into the vibrancy of social interaction. It is often practiced weekly at some Shambhala Centers as an ongoing form of leadership development and community building.
This retreat is an opportunity for deep, focused time together in which we hone our skills as social meditation practitioners and leaders, connect with each other, and connect with the natural world. In addition to silent meditation and social meditation, we will use exercises, creative play, and study of social meditation as a way to deepen our understanding and embodiment of the practice. There will also be relaxed time for exploring the natural world, sitting around the campfire, and creating community through sharing food and music.
Group Mentors and Group leaders will find this retreat an opportunity for a deep dive into the essence of the practice, and will deepen in their skill-set for leading groups. This is also a perfect opportunity for those who are newer to the practice and curious about deeper training to take a leap and steep in the practice for a whole weekend.
Basic housing (sleeping on the shrine room floor, pull-out sofa, etc., tent camping) is included in the program fee. Please indicate preference for indoor accommodations or outdoor tent space during registration. Limited private room accommodations with a queen bed are available at an additional fee (see registration form).
Simple vegetarian meals are provided for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Please bring snacks and additional food as needed (limited fridge space is available).
