Meet our Mind Body Teachers
Yoga. Tea. Adventure. Connection. Human Potential. These interests have taken me from my hometown of Vienna, Virginia to study in Spain, work in China and practice yoga in India. I have a background in events and corporate team-building, completed a 200-Hr Hatha YTT in Rishikesh, have studied LifeForce Yoga, teach mindfulness in the public schools and am the co-founder of The Mind Body Project in China and the US. My teaching style combines traditional yogic practice with modern neuroscience, to facilitate personal evolution and thriving. I believe that when you do science with your brain and body, any activity can be your yoga.
Shawn loves adventure, traveling, and anything that will keep him outdoors. He has been practicing meditation since 2003 when he had a profound experience that changed his life. Later, in 2011, he quit his job to take a year “walkabout” that began in India. Here, he deepened his love of exploring and began to develop a greater passion for meditation while doing several intensive 10 day retreats, which cumulated with a 7 week stay at a Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. Shawn completed his 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kriapalu Center for Yoga and Health in western Massachusetts during the summer of 2016.
Since 2009, Shankari has been on a journey of self discovery, connection and expansion in the universe. Trained in the lineage of Integral Yoga, she has spent years connecting to breath, body, strength, movement, and energy to create her own style of Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow, which she calls Soul Flow. This style of Yoga draws in elements of her time training with Faith Hunter and Toni Bergins, as well as her primary training, at Satchidananda Ashram, Yogaville. She is the Founder of Shakti Tribe, a group that is based on the principles of empowering women in sacred space, through yoga, self care, motivational insight and inspiration. She encourages everyone to tap into their unlimited potential and spirit.
A scholar by day and yogi by night, I have been a student of yoga philosophy and meditation for 8 years, and have been teaching what I have learned, in different capacities, for over 5 years. My special focus is on the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita as well as musical mantra meditation (kirtan). I have received instruction in yoga philosophy from Professor Graham Schweig, an American teacher of Yoga philosophy. Apart from my yoga practice, I spend the rest of my time as a graduate student at the University of Virginia where I study 20th century environmental history.

Sarah loved the intense balance of flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance these exercises encompassed and became inspired to teach others. She became certified in Mat 1 + 2 Power Pilates, SCW Group Fitness and Barre. This past fall, Sarah joined The Mind Body Project. Sarah had always enjoyed yoga because it made her feel good, but she was particularly intrigued with Erin's teachings on breath, neuroscience, and the connection between the mind and body. This led her to seek out yoga teacher training in Costa Rica last winter.
Dana is a Creativity Consultant and founder of Khakkhara (https://khakkhara.com/), a compassionate coaching practice for individuals and owners of heart-centered businesses. in 2016, she organized Charlottesville's first annual Retreat Week, an 8-day mindfulness event featuring classes and seminars on yoga, meditation, and wellness. The unifying principle of her work is a love of connecting with others, of finding points of understanding, and working toward healing from anxiety and trauma.
Her class, Playful Meditation, interweaves traditional contemplative practices with alternate methods for calming our minds and feeling grounded in our bodies.
Geoff is the creator of Acu-Integral Healing Systems and co-founder of The Yellow Door. He is a licensed acupuncturist, qi gong teacher, functional movement specialist, Certified Integral Professional Coach, and a certified personal trainer. For the past decade, Geoff has trained extensively in Qi Gong martial arts, primarily through the study and practice of Ba Gua Zhang, as well as Tai Chi, Medical Qi Gong and Tibetan Energy Yoga. Geoff has also spent the past decade studying, practicing and teaching meditation and is a meditation instructor in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition.
In the late 90's working with a butoh dance company Chitra discovered meditation and yoga. She then decided to become a yoga teacher "to stay in shape." Now a yoga therapist (C-IAYT) Chitra's classes are deeply seasoned with life experience on the path. She combines her many gifts to create a dynamic yet peaceful experience. She offers Yoga of Recovery 6 week series which combine yoga, 12-step principles and Ayurveda and also offers Ayurvedic constitutional assessments. She teaches Basic and Intermediate Hatha Yoga (RYT500), Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Creativity. She is a Wise Earth Ayurveda Japa Meditation Practitioner and Certified Lotus Palm Thai Yoga Bodyworker and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. Chitra is now booking Yoga Therapy sessions at The Yellow Door for mind, body and spirit health and healing.
